A Sergeant in the Danville Sheriff’s Office is on administrative leave after being charged with assaulting his son.

Sgt. Bryant Lee Booth was charged with assault and battery after an incident that took place at about 6:45 a.m. Monday at Danville Regional Medical Center, according to Lt. Col. Ronald Ball, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

Booth showed up at the emergency room to pick up his son when the alleged assault took place, Ball said.

Danville police arrested Booth at the hospital and Ball said the nature of the incident remains under investigation.

Booth joined the city sheriff’s office about 10 years ago before leaving to accept a job with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

He rejoined the city sheriff’s office in 2004.

The sheriff’s office has had no complaints filed against Booth in the past, Ball said.

Booth has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.

He is scheduled to be arraigned June 2 in Danville Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The name and age of Booth’s son has not been released.
