Danville Police use a taser to disarm a woman they say tried to attack a man with a knife.
Investigators tell us the incident took place around 11:00 p.m., Monday, July 14th, in the 600 block of Cardinal Place. Officers say they found a man and woman fighting when they arrived. The officers separated the two, and found the woman, Patricia Wimbush, had a knife.
Investigators say Corporal Todd Hawkins drew his weapon, and ordered the Wimbush to drop the knife. Police tell us Wimbush refused to, and tried to attack the man again.
Investigators say Cpl. Hawkins chose to holster his weapon, and tried to physically disarm Wimbush. He failed, and was almost cut. Officers say Cpl. Hawkins then used a taser to take down Wimbush, and seize the knife.
Investigators believe Wimbush stabbed the man she was fighting with prior to officers arriving, and was struggling to prevent Wimbush from stabbing him again.
Police charged Wimbush with malicious wounding.
