Langston Focus School Principal Samuel Massie was found dead Thursday morning in Rockingham County, N.C., according to authorities.
A deputy found Massie’s car on Goose Pond Road off N.C. 700, between Eden and the Mayfield community, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Dean Venable, spokesman for the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, said Thursday afternoon.
A search team was called in and Massie’s body was found a short time later, he said.
“Shortly after we started looking, we found the body of the man laying face down in a small body of water,“ Venable, said. He said the body was a short walking distance away from the man’s vehicle.
The investigation into Massie’s death is ongoing.
Danville Public Schools Superintendent Sue Davis said school system employees are saddened by the news of the longtime educator’s death.
