Danville’s Home Depot should begin advertising its job openings in the next few weeks, according to a company spokeswoman.

Sarah Molinari, of Home Depot, said she expects the Danville store, which will be located in Coleman MarketPlace, to hire about 150 people.

“We’re on track to open the store this summer,” Molinari said.

Close to 70 percent of the new jobs will be full-time positions.

Molinari said full- and part-time jobs at Home Depot offer benefit packages.

“That’s one of the reasons people love to work with us,” she said.

The company has openings for sales associates, cashiers, kitchen designers, people to stock shelves, professional contractors, as well as office and store leadership

positions.

Home Depot will occupy about 100,000 square feet in Coleman MarketPlace.

Mayor Sherman Saunders said he’s pleased Home Depot is making progress with its new store.

“It is just another example of how Danville is moving forward, and it shows that our economic development strategy is working,” Saunders said.

He said more jobs are coming to the Dan River Region and people in the area must become more “job-ready.”

That means potential employees must pick up the skills they need in order to qualify for jobs that crop up in the months to come, the mayor said.

“Economic development has been a top priority for our city, and with regional cooperation we will do more,” Saunders said. “It’s working. Home Depot getting ready to hire people is more evidence that it is working. Good things are happening in Danville.”
