A local woman is dead and her son is in stable condition after being stabbed several times.
It happened early Friday morning on Holland Road in Danville.
A trail of blood from leading to Holland Baptist Church tells the story.
Police say someone called 911 when they found a 17-year-old collapsed on the side of the road.
After literally following the blood back police found the teenager’s mother 40-year-old Brenda Lewis, dead, in the front yard. The boy’s in stable condition.
“There was a significant amount of blood outside and we’re going to have that tested for DNA to find out if it was the victim or if it was her son, where he was stabbed or if it was a perpetrator in the house,” said Lieutenant Scott Eanes, Danville Police Department.
Police are investigating a number of different scenarios, including a break-in. We’re told this area has been targeted by thieves for a while.
“We’ve had several vehicles that have been entered and a couple houses that have been entered and of course we have to look at that too,” said Lt. Eanes
“It shocked me,” said neighbor, Carroll Ayers.
What Ayers saw outside his home at 5 a.m. was worse than anything he’s heard about.
“People talk about 2 or 3 break-ins down the road here and a couple up the road, but ain’t nothing like this,” said Ayers.
With a victim on the ground, one in the hospital and a suspect on the loose, Ayers remains a little leery.
“I always got my guard up, always looking back and in front, always you got to these days,” he said.
Police say they have received a tip regarding the weapon. The caller says it’s in the wooded area behind the home.
However, if you have any information they’re asking you to call the Danville Crime Stoppers at (434) 793-0000.
