(AP) - Federal investigators say there is no evidence of mechanical problems or fire in a twin-engine plane that nose-dived into a North Carolina neighborhood, killing six.
The plane was headed to a hunting and golf resort in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. A preliminary report on the February 1st crash was issued by the National Transportation Safety Board.
It found that the plane came in to high and missed its initial approach. Radar data showed the plane making its final approach at an altitude 2,000 feet and over a mile from the airport. Two minutes later, radar showed the plane left of the runway at 2,300 feet.
Investigators said the aircraft continued banking to the left and started climbing again before nose-diving out of the clouds and crashing into a back yard.
