Hundreds of striking Volvo workers in our area get some big name support.
Union members at the New River Valley plant in Dublin went on strike Thursday night at midnight saying they have not been offered a fair contract.
Today, Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama says he supports the striking workers through the following statement:
“I stand with the workers who are striking Volvo. The union’s demands – job security, health benefits and safety protections – are basic guarantees that all workers should expect and that UAW members deserve. Volvo has a responsibility to work with the UAW so that union members can go back to work.”
The Union president says even though talks with corporate in Charlotte have failed thus far, they’ll continue to try and find common ground as soons as possible.
