A fire swept through Rob’s Bar and Grill on North Main Street early Saturday morning, causing heavy damage to the building.
Three fire engines, a ladder engine and three staff vehicles responded to the restaurant at about 4 a.m., according to a news release from the Danville Fire Department. When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke showing from the attic area and “serious heat” from all areas of the building, the release stated.
As firefighters were getting into position to fight the fire, flames broke through the roof and heavy fire was visible throughout the attic space. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control after nearly an hour and a half.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, which burned the restaurant badly enough to cause the building to be listed as condemned. A followup news release from Danville Assistant Fire Chief R.O. Tate stated that an electrical short circuit was determined to have caused the fire.
