An auction for 1,113 acres of land taking place in August will include more than 400 acres of property at Pittsylvania County’s border with Caswell and Rockingham counties in North Carolina.
The four parcels within that area feature frontage on the Dan River, said Tom McInnis, chief operating officer with Rockingham, N.C.,-based Iron Horse Auction Co.
The land has flood plains and wooded area with good cropland and potential for hunting and fishing, he added.
“It’s (the auction) a rare opportunity to be able to purchase this type of property ... regardless of price,” McInnis said.
Iron Horse is selling the land on behalf of Rockingham real estate developer William Pryor.
Two tracts are located in Pittsylvania County, accessible from Route 871, Gravel Hill Road in Cascade and Goose Pond Road off of Highway 700 in Mayfield, N.C. The Virginia/North Carolina line makes up the southern border of one of the tracts.
The other two tracts are accessible from South Side Access Road off of U.S. 58, and adjoin Norfolk Southern Railway. One tract is in Rockingham County and the other is in Caswell County.
The four tracts total 409 acres.
The auction also includes another 435 acres in Rockingham County, including tracts in the Reidsville area, and 259 acres in Caswell County, including tracts in the Pelham community.
The properties will be sold at two events, with the first auction at 11 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Reidsville Downtown Exhibit Center on South Scales Street and the second is at 11 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Pelham Community Center on U.S. 29.
