A local pastor is sponsoring a rally Sunday to support troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and those who have served, as well as a call for America to repent.
Joseph Hopkins, pastor of Westover Church of God, said the Yellow Ribbon Rally is set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
“We’re really looking forward to it. We’re always optimistic that we’ll have a good turnout,” Hopkins said.
Hopkins said the featured speaker will be Cecil Todd, founder and president of World-Wide Revival Fires Ministry, from Branson, Mo. He added that men and women serving in the military and veterans will be recognized and honored.
Todd will use the event to help raise money to provide Bibles to troops in Iraq. So far, about 120,000 Bibles have been sent at the request of the Pentagon and another 30,000 are needed. The cost is $4 a Bible.
During the past six months, Todd has conducted rallies in 24 different cities, in nine different states and at 24 different venues.
Todd has been preaching for 59 years and has traveled around the world performing evangelism work.
Hopkins said the rally is non-denominational and is open to the public. Call (434) 793-3515 for more information.
