Teams worked from noon to midnight Thursday to complete their sculptures.

This year more than 35,000 cans were used to build the structures. Compare that to 27,000 for last years event.

After the competition, all food is donated to Feeding America Southwest Virginia. The event will run through November 22.

Opening day is the only day people can vote for the peoples choice sculpture.

One can or one dollar is equal to a vote.

The winner will be announced at a special ceremony on November 7. That will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
