A viewer asked me the other day what we do when we have to cough and we’re on the air. I cross my fingers that it only happens during a commercial!!

Being on the anchor desk, or in the middle of a live shot and having to cough is kind of like being in church or some other setting you feel you need to be quiet. You hold it in and that just seems to make it worse. I’ve been fighting a terrible cough for more than a week now.

I managed to hide it, but not the hoarseness that comes along with it, last weekend… until Sunday. I couldn’t make it through to the first commercial break. I held it in, but it would not be held in any longer.

It’s a bit harder when you don’t have a co-anchor to cover for you. At least I am not completely alone this weekend. Meteorologist Patrick McKee is coughing right along with me today.

I guess this cold/flu season really is bad!!
