David Bowers just launched his fifth bid for mayor of Roanoke, after losing his last two.

Bowers is becoming a perennial candidate. In fact, I’m having trouble recalling one city council election that I’ve covered in ten years that Bowers hasn’t been a candidate, or at least a rumored candidate. Of course, he has lost all of those races, including a recent bid to become the Democratic Party chair for Roanoke City.

So, will this time be the charm for David Bowers? He is energetic, committed, and has a message. And this time he’s running as an independent, hoping to attract Democrats and Republicans to his bid.

His track record isn’t the best, but one thing is for sure: David Bowers always keeps things interesting. He started his announcement ceremony today marching down Church Ave. with a bagpiper. That’s different!
