6th District Democrats are learning some shocking news. Longtime party leader and activist David Layman passed away Tuesday night.
I got wind of his death this morning and made a few calls. But, this afternoon, another longtime local party activist called to let me know how it happened. Evidently, Layman was conducting a party meeting in Lexington, when he collapsed. The person who called me said it might have been a stroke and that Layman was speaking when it happened. Layman turned 60 last November.
I haven’t personally interviewed Layman, but in my ten years in the Valley his name is one that came up frequently in political circles. He knew how to make things happen and the people I talked with today most often called him “dedicated.”
No plans for his memorial service have been released.
