Yesterday I mentioned the Rep. Rick Boucher was endorsing Se. Barack Obama for president. Boucher’s show of support follows a long stream of high level Virginia democratic to endorse the Illinois Senator with names like Kaine, Scott, Wilder, and Beyer throwing their support to him.

So, it would appear that much of the Democratic establishment is lining up with Obama. Is the same happening on the GOP side? Is one candidate garnering the bulk of the institutional support? In a word, no.

Take a look at the list:

Jerry Kilgore endorsed Guiliani and serves as chair of his VA campaign.

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling endorsed Mitt Romney and is serving as his VA campaign chair. The 700 Club’s Pat Robertson also endorsed Mitt.

Former Gov. and Sen. George Allen endorsed Fred Thompson and is serving as a national co-chair of the campaign. Attorney General Bob McDonnell also endorsed Thompson.

Rep. Tom Davis endorsed John McCain.

As you can see, the Republicans are all over the map. This would seem to mirror the results of the IA, WY, NH, MI, NV, and SC primaries and caucuses, as we have had three different winners in six contests. Nationally, it appears the Republicans have yet to settle on a candidate. Looking at the endorsements of Virginia’s GOP leaders, it would appear the commonwealth is the same.
