I know I talk regularly about eating healthy and exercise but I breakdown and buy donuts on Friday nights for the news room when John is off.  He started the tradition long ago.

One and a half dozen donuts from a popular chain in Roanoke.  For people who work the nightshift it is sort of our version of happy hour.  Some people go out after 5 or 6 for drinks we indulge in a donut around 8.  No double shot of anything just a chocolate frosted donut with a shot of sprinkles.

Tonight when I walked in the door with the treats there were smiles and thank you’s from everyone around.  It’s amazing how a small act of kindness toward others brings such satisfaction.

It is quite the trip and I am sure people hate to be in line behind me when I say “I’ll take a dozen and a half donuts.” I have tried to get it down to a bit of a science.  I ask for two of the same kind at a time to try to speed the process.  Even still there is pressure and so many to choose from.

Peanut, coconut, french crullers, bavarian cream, chocolate glazed, blueberry, vanilla frosted, strawberry frosted, chocolate frosted… the last three all also come with sprinkles too… the list goes on and on… I know there is nothing healthy about it but hey.. everything in moderation right?

The donuts make it a little more enjoyable to make phone calls to update stories and check our news wires for updates.. on Fridays during the 11p news if there seems to be a little skip in my speech it may be because the weekend is close or just the rush of sugar because of donut night…
