Football Frenzy

As I watched the playoff games and saw the commercial with Peyton Manning talking about how bummed he was that football season is almost over, I could strangely relate to him.  I have always enjoyed football, but only in the last year have I grown especially fond of spending a Saturday or Sunday afternoon watching two good teams battle the clock and each other.

I was a Redskins fan by marriage, but now I pull for them as if they have always been my favorite.  It was great to see them beat the Cowboys, not only because it meant 10 On Your Side Sports’ Chris Whitley owed me a soda, but because they played their hearts out.

One thing that makes me sad about the season ending is the conclusion of the fun, relaxing time I looked forward to on the weekends.  I also hated to see the disappointment on the faces of grown men who have worked so hard to bring their team to a victory.  I was pulling so hard for Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers against the Giants because I wanted to see him take his team to the Super Bowl and finish what could be his last year on the highest note possible.

Now the question is who should I pull for on February 3rd?  The Patriots have done something no other team has been able to do, right?  They are undefeated!  When you watch them play Tom Brady makes passing a football and completing a pass effortless.  I mean who goes for it on 4th down with 16 yards to go and makes it?  Not many teams.  On the other hand the Giants fought hard in negative temperatures, enduring the cold weather and fan reception at Lambeau field to prove they are Super Bowl worthy.

I had predicted a Packers and Patriots showdown where I would pull for the Packers.  I’m still debating who will get my Super Bowl vote now.  But, I know no matter who I pull for I will savor the quarters, the flags, the touchdowns and field goals.  Perhaps for the first time ever, I will be watching for more than the commercials.  And heck there’s always NASCAR starting up and it might be the longest season ever.  I get the feeling I will still have the relaxing time to look forward to on the weekends.

Who will you be pulling for? Use the “reader comments” link and let me know!
