Okay… with a name like McNew you would think St. Patty’s Day is one of my favorite holidays but traditionally it passes like any other day in my world without much notice… It usually falls during the week and working evenings doesn’t lend itself to going out for a corned beef and cabbage dinner along with other festivities that usually go along with the holiday.

This year is a little different for me thought… even though St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Monday the weekend before will be a time for some celebration.  My husband and I are running in the Shamrock Hill Run on the Saturday before in Roanoke.  The race is a 5k that starts around 9:15am at Roanoke Catholic School.  See http://www.starcitystriders.com for more information about the race and how you can get involved.

Also, every year on the day itself people say “Where’s your green?” Well I just don’t have a lot of green in my wardrobe.  So tonight I picked up a couple of clothing items including a shirt to wear on “race day.”

We are also looking forward to spending time with some of our friends we haven’t seen in a while after the race.  So we will all run together and then hang out to celebrate.  Running a 5K as fast as you can will make you tired so it may be a St. Patty’s day lunch celbration as opposed to dinner.
