I have been running a lot lately getting ready for the SML Triathlon Relay - I am probably over training for a 5K run but have still been enjoying it none the less… I bought a new pair of running shoes just before the Star City Half Marathon in November of last year… since then I have been logging about 100 miles a month and recently noticed some tenderness in my shins… everyone I talked to said it’s probably your shoes… well more than one person told me after about 6 months of daily use they “get soft” and lose support…
So today I went to my favorite running store in Roanoke and decided I needed a change in shoe style—I was on my 5th pair of one brand and told the very nice man helping me about my dilemma.. that I understood you weren’t supposed to buy running shoes based on looks… but on teh way they fit your feet and your stride…
He suggested a few comparable shoes and the third pair I tried on hooked me… The new shoes are like running on cotton… you don’t realize how old your old shoes are until you try on some new ones… they are so white and crisp looking I didn’t want to run in the rain because I don’t want to get them dirty..
(I know that is silly but it’s true) so the new shoes will get a road run another day - perhaps tomorrow if the showers hold off in my neighborhood..
On a funny side note - my husband is wearing running shoes that barely have soles left on them… I picked him up a new pair too.. he won’t take the time to go try them on… I was delighted to hear his response was as upbeat as mine about how much more comfortable they are than his old worn out pair…
*Luckie note - Luckie’s Cushing’s symptoms are for the most part under control - he still gets up really early but the extreme hunger and thirst seem to be under control for now.
*Gardening note - Mulch is about half way done… planted some bulbs and a couple of Hosta over the weekend. My mini-greenhouse experiment (growing Zinnia’s and Morning Glories from seed) is coming along nicely. I have transplanted more than half of the seedlings and just need to get some more dirt and containers to finish up…
