Today has been a whirlwind of events… I got a call from John Carlin before work saying we won the Peabody Award for our coverage of April 16th… and while it is nice to be recognized for your work… when a former Virginia Tech professor e-mailed to say congratulations - this was my response:
“Thank you so much for this e-mail… it truly is bittersweet - I would gladly give back that award if we could change the past and erase that day…“
The enormity of the honor is still settling in but I know for me my job is in large part about community service. I have had tears well in my eyes today - not over the award but over the memories of that day and while we all remained composed… almost all of us were thinking about a friend or family member on or near campus that day.
I am honored to be a part of such a dedicated group of professionals as those who work tirelessly day in and day out at WSLS
