Valentine’s day means different things to different people and means nothing to some people… For my husband and I it has usuallly meant exchanging sweet cards but not much more than that.
Last year it meant marriage for my niece Blair to her long time boyfriend John.. We have always thought of John as part of the family and they are well matched for one another… I just talked to Blair though and this year to celebrate their one year anniversary she will likely be having chicken soup on the couch instead of a fancy dinner at a restaurant… she sounded so sick and disappointed when I talked to her that it made me sad… but at the same time I realized and I think she and John will too that celebrating your committment to one another is more than a night out on the town on one evening… it is about making the most of your time with one another day in and day out… it is about listening and being able to admit you are wrong and being able to apologize when needed… I wish John and Blair a very happy anniversary but I also wish them the wisdom to know that as their love grows stronger they will have many more happy years to celebrate February 14th… afterall the vow is in sickness and in health.. right?
As I started this entry I realized this evening February 13th is another anniversary but one that isn’t joyous the way marriage is. My Grandma Davidson passed away one year ago today from Alzheimer’s. She is in heaven and with me everyday but I still miss her… So if they read blogs in heaven.. I love you maw maw and we miss you a bunch.
