Our story on a man who walked a long way for charity was a good one, according to this viewer—but our graphic needed a little direction.

This evening at 5:30 you ran a nice piece about a man from Randolph College in Lynchburg walking to Washington, D.C. to support women in the Congo. Where did you come up with that graphic? We have never been a part of Randolph Community College in Ashboro, NC.

WSLS Responds.
You are correct. This mistake was made by our graphics department which got the two colleges with similar names mixed up. We corrected the graphic for the next newscast.
Our report on supposed fund raising by the Fraternal order of police advised viewers to ask some questions before giving—saving this viewer some hassle and some money.

... They suggested when you get a call ask are you a police officer or a fund raiser. ... I got a solicitor. And I asked them the question, and as soon as I asked the question… They hung up on me. ... Thanks to Channel 10 I didn’t have to go into any long explanation about money or anything else, so once again, thanks a lot.

And another viewer just wanted to tell us to keep our chin up.

...I think you do an excellent job. You’ve got to report on everything, you can’t leave something out. And that’s going offend some people. When you leave something out, if offends people… When you tell the whole story it offends people. It’s a no win situation. I would just keep reporting on everything and brush off what people say and keep up the good work.

To Whom It May Concern:
As a dedicated viewer of your channel and especially your news and weather, I found your broadcast of 3/26/08 to be very disappointing. In a society with so many issues and so many concerns I found it almost impossible to believe you would waste precious news time to report on who our presidential candidates may be related to. First of all, I don’t think anybody really cares. Secondly, someone nine generations out, twice removed, isn’t newsworthy as being kin. The Roanoke Valley has many issues as well as does our nation, which should be reported; but things such as this are not one of them. I can only speak for myself and my family but probably feel as many others do that who is kin to who and especially the distances of kin is really of no importance at all. Please just report the news.
I prefer your news channel over the other local station and think that over all your newscasters make up one of the finest crews in the area but once again please just stick to the news and not junk.
Thank you very much for your time,
Eugene Mills

Sorry but I just had to send another email. Reporting on a pregnant man who was really a woman posing as a man? If this is all WSLS has to report please just go off the air ! First of all if she’s a he and got pregnant then he had to be sleeping with a he and not a she. Why then would she want to be a he instead of a she? See how STUPID !!!!!! and my 13 year old son watching said that if He was really a she and you showed a picture (without a shirt) then you just showed pornography on public TV. If HE was a SHE then the chest shouldnt have been shown. If She was a He then he must be a freak to get HIMSELF (OH I mean HERSELF) pregnant by a SHE/HE male/female. See the junk you are pumping into our homes. I might have to switch channels just to get some real news. This is becoming the Jerry Springer Newscast. Shame on you.
