We received hundreds of comments on Thursday night’s storm coverage.  We begin with those who were angry.

(phone)
We are calling because we do not appreciate that the regular programming on Thursday night is being interrupted by 24-7 weather forecasting.  We know the weather is serious and that there are tornado warnings and we hope those don’t happen.  Nevertheless we feel that people could be informed ... And we could watch the regular programming at the same time.

Why are we watching an hour of your weatherman showing the same map saying the same things repeatedly?  Your channel is the only local one too stupid to realize you could put up a continual crawl on the screen saying the same thing repeatedly without pre-empting the entire night.  We get it.  There’s a storm.  It’s moving.  Get this crap off the air…

(e-mail)
Last night’s program interruption to alert viewers of severe weather was like watching an old rerun of the Three Stooges (minus a third Stooge)…

Sir if you understand programming, you understand 90-percent of your programming is nothing ... I understand lives are in danger, but it’s only ten percent, and you should keep it in perspective.

On the other hand many viewers were grateful.

I would like to thank you all at Channel 10 for breaking in with the in-depth coverage of the storms that took place tonight ... Being in Franklin County with the weather and the warnings it was important for us to know what was going on..

I can’t believe people are more concerned about watching sitcoms than their own safety or the safety of others.  WSLS News Team, you rock!  Keep doing what you’re doing.

(e-mail)
Please don’t EVER, EVER apologize for these interruptions.  It is very important that these updates are given to the public.  I felt comforted knowing that Channel 10 was on my side looking by out for my safety.  You guys did a fantastic job in keeping us informed.  I hate that some viewers were upset that the regular programming was interrupted.
Sue Richardson.

Pond: Yes I am upset because I pay over fifty dollars a month to watch my favorite shows! And yes I would be upset about my house, but I wouldnt be in an open living room watching every word wsls has to say while it crashes down around me. Cable would probably go first an event such as that.

Posted by pond: You need to read! Shut up about lots that are overgrown, have you looked at our economy lately? I’m sure there are MORE important things than depleting more habitats for animals. As for the constant WSLS weather interruptions… STOP! The national weather alert isn’t even that long! I am sick of hearing about Viper Radar… NBC is getting a letter about you.

Thursday night was bad enough, but now on Sunday also! Are you considering starting a show about severe weather daily? Did your weather reporters grow up wanting to be actors and now they think this is their big chance! If you have to break in on regularly scheduled programs, do it fast and efficient - don’t just repeat the same things over and over again, most of us are adults not children so if you say it once we get it. Simply put - quit bothering me while I am trying too watch t.v.!
