Viewers were anxious this week to let WSLS-10 know what they thought of our coverage of Tuesday’s tornado warnings.  During that time we stayed on the air for approximately 30 minutes in the afternoon, and broke into programming several times in the evening as well.

(e-mail)

I just wanted to let the station know, that I am very grateful for your timely reporting on the weather. I DO NOT mind if you ‘break in’ on a tv show that is already in progress.  Knowing the current weather situation is far more important than some show. I say disregard the ... people that complain. Keep up the great reporting!!

(e-mail)
I suggest that the banner at the top of the screen is sufficient rather than interrupting a program for an entire half hour as was done today from 4 till 4:30 p.m.
Beale and Janet Rodgers

(e-mail)
you R in a Slight Risk to Moderate, to heavy risk of losing viewer forever…
Mark Ryan

(e-mail)
PLEASE stop with the tornado coverage and quick lessons on radar.
You have talked for more than TWENTY minutes only repeating yourselves.
...I know I am not the only one who feels this way.  Your weather men must not have enough to do and are trying to make something of nothing.

WSLS-10 Responds: When we have severe weather it it our responsibility to report it to the public.
In this case it was not only severe, there was a tornado warning and people were potentially in harms way.  A crawl across the screen does not give specific information quickly enough to adequately warn viewers who may be in harm’s way.

And our story on season ticket holders having their bank accounts accessed by Virginia Tech was welcomed by this fan of Tech and apparently WSLS-10.

(e-mail)
Thank you for reporting on this story.  I had not checked my bank account today, but after hearing this report, ... I was shocked to find out that I am one of the 1665 affected members.  I love my school and have faith that the VT Athletic Ticket Office will do what it takes to correct this situation.  Thanks again ...
Mac Marlow

WSLS responds:  Virginia Teck did in fact make things right with ticket holders, putting the money back into their accounts the following day.

This week your morning anchor in a mention of the war, made a comment that “most” Americans want out of Iraq. I don’t know where that notion came from but I certainly haven’t seen any numbers or polls that would warrant using the term “most”. I believe just as many Americans feel that our military should stay in Iraq and anywhere else for as long as it takes to bring about stability to the region. Until then many of us won’t feel safe in our own country. It is a sad day in America when news organizations start editorializiing rather than reporting the news. I am greatly disappointed that channel 10 has apparently fallen right in line with the rest of the liberal mainstream media.

As a disabled Volvo worker, much too handicapped to work or walk the picket line, I would like to express heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to my union brothers and sisters of UAW Local 2069 for their victorious resolution of the contract with Volvo Corporation in Dublin, Giving honor to whom honor is due, I thank God for all the courageous men and women who employed their voices and legs in my stead. Their perseverance in the recent strike insured that all Volvo workers will continue to receive fair wages and benefits comparable to other American automotive workers. My union heroes walked in wind, snow, rain, heat, and cold, amidst the taunts, curses, and obscene gestures flung at them by the minority crossing the picket lines to work. Those who refused to strike were quick to publicly accuse the faithful strikers of harassment, but there are two sides to every story. Those same traitors will continue to enjoy all the excellent benefits earned for them by the dues-paying union members who bravely walked and tirelessly bargained on their behalf. Thanks guys!
