UVA names new Law School Dean

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - University of Virginia law professor Paul Mahoney has been appointed dean of the School of Law.
Mahoney, a corporate law expert who joined the faculty in 1990, will start July 1. He succeeds John Jeffries Jr., who is taking a one-year sabbatical, then returning to teach at the law school full time.
Mahoney served as the law school’s academic associate dean from 1999 to 2004, administering the school’s curriculum and academic policies.
The 49-year-old Mahoney earned his undergraduate and law degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yale University, respectively. He clerked for Judge Ralph K. Winter Jr. of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. Mahoney practiced law with New York firm Sullivan & Cromwell before joining the U.Va. faculty.
