RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia officials have ordered 200,000 additional voter registration forms to keep up with demand before the November elections.
The State Board of Elections requested the new forms after it distributed nearly 350,000 registration applications in July and August.
Many were sent to county elections boards and the Department of Motor Vehicles, but groups trying to register voters also received tens of thousands of them.
Board secretary Nancy Rodrigues said 250,000 registration forms normally last an entire year.
Officials expect a crush of new registrants before the October 6 registration deadline.
Since January 1, the state’s voter registration rolls have increased by 211,000 people, to nearly 4.8 million voters.
