CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Radford senior pitcher Ashley Taylor, a former Dan River standout, and freshman utility player Shannon Keefe highlighted Radford’s school-record eight Big South All-Conference selections.
Taylor garnered her third consecutive Pitcher of the Year honor and Keefe took home the Freshman of the Year award. The selections were voted on by league coaches and sports information directors.
Taylor’s eight Big South Pitcher of the Week selections this season and her 17 total career nods set Big South records in both categories during the 2008 campaign. She currently ranks No. 11 in the country with a school-record 28 wins (28-8) during the season, which ranks No. 1 in the Big South and fifth in the Big South single season records. Her 83 total wins in her career are also the fifth-highest mark all-time in the Big South.
Taylor posted a league best 1.18 ERA among starters and was second with 216 strikeouts. Her seven saves this season are good for No. 2 in the nation and are tops on the Big South single-season list. She went 11-1 with a 1.01 ERA and had 72 strikeouts in league play. Taylor is the only player in conference history to be named pitcher of the year more than twice since the league began giving the award in 2004.
