Bishops push past Averett in USA South baseball tourney opener

Jake Loye drove in both Averett (14-21) runs with a home run in the fourth inning.  Averett now falls into the losers bracket.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — The North Carolina Wesleyan Bishops jumped ahead early and tacked a pair of runs on late to beat the Averett Cougars 9-2 in the first round of the USA South Conference tournament on Thursday. Travis Beausoleil led Wesleyan (25-11-1) with two hits, two runs and an RBI, while Jake Loye drove in both Averett (14-21) runs with a home run in the fourth inning. Averett now falls into the losers bracket and will face Ferrum on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
