VMI’s Bowman, VCU’s Bolden taken in draft

Virginia Military Institute pitcher/third baseman Michael Bowman, a product of Deep Run High School, was taken in the ninth round (278th pick) of the Major League Baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Also selected in the ninth round was Virginia Commonwealth University first baseman Jared Bolden (Texas, 273rd), James Madison first baseman Steven Caseres (Los Angeles Dodgers, 277th) and Old Dominion pitcher/third baseman Anthony Shawler (Detroit, 283rd).

The University of Virginia had two more players selected in the eighth round: first baseman Jeremy Farrell (Pittsburgh, 234th) and pitcher Pat McAnaney (Arizona, 258). The Cavaliers had three players drafted in the first five rounds Thursday
