UVA defeats Richmond in CBI opener
The new College Basketball Invitational is still postseason play, and after Virginia’s 66-64 come-from-behind victory against Richmond in the first round at the John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday, it means one thing. “We’re fortunate enough to keep playing,” said Cavaliers guard Sean Singletary, who led all scorers with 18. “A lot of people aren’t playing right now.”

Hokies to host N.I.T. game
After losing to North Carolina Saturday in the ACC Semifinals, Virginia Tech had to wait until Sunday to find out whether they would be invited to the NCAA Tournament. They did not receive a bid, so the Hokies will play in the N.I.T.

The Hokies (19-13) did almost everything they wanted to yesterday except win. They led for all but 18.8 seconds of the second half. The Tar Heels (31-2) never led by more than three points all day, and they ended up 21 shy of their scoring average. No ACC team had held them to fewer than 75 points this season.

Hokies Seth Greenberg named ACC coach of year
Nobody expected much from Virginia Tech before the season, and after a 39-point loss last month at North Carolina, those expectations dipped even further. The Hokies could have packed it in - but instead, they made an unexpected, late push toward the top of the league standings and put themselves in the conversation for the NCAA tournament.

Virginia Tech forward A.D. Vassallo could have stomached a game-winning 3-pointer or even a costly turnover. The Hokies could have lost Sunday’s men’s basketball game at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum practically any other way and it would have been easier to take.

Hokie Women Fall To B.C.
After a tough conference regular season schedule, the Tech women had high hopes to make a run in the ACC Tourney. Boston College had other ideas. The Eagles held the Hokies to just 25 percent shooting in the first half, and pounded the ball inside on offense to win 57-47.
