NCAA Tournament Down To Sweet 16

UNDATED (AP) - Entering the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA men’s
tournament, here are the matchups ahead:
On Thursday, top-seed North Carolina continues its home-state
appearances by playing fourth-seed Washington State in Charlotte.
Second-seed Tennessee plays third-seed Louisville in the other East
Regional semifinal.
Also on Thursday, West Number-1 seed UCLA plays 12th-seed
Western Kentucky in Phoenix. Third-seed Xavier meets seventh-seed
West Virginia in the other West semifinal.
On Friday, South top-seed Memphis takes on Tom Izzo’s fifth-seed
Michigan State Spartans. Second-seed Texas meets third-seeded
Stanford in the other South Regional semifinal.
Rounding out the 16, Midwest Number-1 seed Kansas plays upstart
Villanova, a 12th seed Friday in Detroit. Third-seed Wisconsin
plays 10th-seed Davidson in the other Midwest semifinal.
Here’s how everybody got there:
Stephen Curry scored 25 of his 30 points in the
second half as Davidson rallied to beat Georgetown 74-70 in a
second-round game in Raleigh.
Staying in the Midwest, Scottie Reynolds dumped in 25 points and
Corey Stokes added 20 as 12th-seeded Villanova bounced 13th-seeded
Siena 84-72 in Tampa.
In the East, top seed North Carolina routed Arkansas 108-77.
Wayne Ellington scored 20 points and the Tar Heels raced to a
double-digit lead in the first 5 minutes.
Also in the East, Tennessee’s JaJuan (juh-WAHN’) Smith hit four
straight free throws in the final 13.6 seconds of overtime to give
the Volunteers a 76-71 win over Butler.
Louisville shot 59 percent in whipping Oklahoma 78-48. Earl
Clark led a balanced attack with 14.
Texas reached the round of 16 after a thrilling 75-71 win over
Miami. A.J. Abrams hit two free throws with 9.5 seconds left to win
it.
Top-seeded Memphis held off upset-minded Mississippi State 77-74
in that South regional. Joey Dorsey had 13 points, 12 rebounds, a
season-high six blocks.
In the only game from the West regional, 12th-seeded Western
Kentucky turned back 13th seed San Diego 72-63 in Tampa. Courtney
Lee scored 29 points with the Hilltoppers.
