LOS ANGELES (AP) - Virginia senior guard Sean Singletary has been chosen as one of the midseason top 30 candidates for the John R. Wooden Award, presented to college basketball’s outstanding player.
Singletary ranks third in the ACC with 18.5 points per game and leads the conference and ranks eighth nationally with six assists per game.
The Los Angeles Athletic Club’s John R. Wooden Award Committee named the top 30 candidates. The players were selected based on individual performance and team records during the first half of the 2007-08 season.
The Wooden Award National Advisory Board Committee will select about 20 players in March to be named on the national ballot for the award. From that list, more than 1,000 voters will select the 10-player Wooden Award All-America Team and the Player of the Year.
