(AP) - Virginia made it into the Top 25 of The Associated Press women’s college basketball poll for the first time in four seasons.
The Cavaliers rallied from 15 points down yesterday to beat Georgia Tech 103-101 in double overtime. The win at home carried Virginia to a 22-and-8 record and its first ranking—at Number 25—since the preseason poll of the 2003-04 season.
Virginia locked up the Number 4 seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.
The Cavaliers’ next game is Friday in the ACC tournament against the winner of the Georgia Tech-Miami game.
Virginia’s only losses this season in the conference have come to Maryland twice, North Carolina and Duke.
Old Dominion fell five places to Number 16 after James Madison ended the Lady Monarchs’ 19-game winning streak yesterday. Dawn Evans scored 19 points to help the Dukes beat ODU 76-to-63 in Harrisonburg.
Connecticut remained the top choice in the AP poll. The top five in the poll remained unchanged with North Carolina, Tennessee, Rutgers and Maryland following the Huskies.
