CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Virginia point guard Sharnee Zoll had seven assists in the Cavaliers’ 83-to-71 victory against Clemson tonight, allowing her to pass Dawn Staley as the career assists leader in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Zoll, who has had Staley’s career total of 729 assists written on her sneakers since her freshman year, surpassed her with a dazzling alley-oop pass to Monica Wright in the second half. Zoll also had eight points, four steals and nine rebounds in the game.
Staley was a two-time women’s player of the year at Virginia between 1989 and 1992.
Zoll has 731 career assists heading into Sunday’s game at Number 12 Duke.
