VC clinches CAA top seed with win over UNC-Wilmington

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Eric Maynor scored 16 points and Virginia Commonwealth clinched the top seed in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament with a 72-to-58 victory against North Carolina-Wilmington.
The Rams (22-6, 14-3) won for the fifth time in their last seven games. It’s their second consecutive CAA title. The Seahawks fell to 18-12, 11-6.
The Rams led 30-to-29 at halftime after scoring 10 consecutive points, including eight by Maynor. They gradually pulled ahead in the second half, leading by as many as 16.
Jamal Shuler added 15 points, Michael Anderson 12 and Joey Rodriguez 10 for the Rams.
T.J. Carter led Wilmington with 17 points, Todd Hendley had 13 and Vladimir Kuljanin 10.
