He’s got good hands with the catches to prove it.
But it’s his feet, and how well he’s filling some big shoes that have Hokies talking.
“He’s dependable, he’s smart, he’s tough. I like him a lot,“ Head Coach Frank Beamer said.
Danny Coale: If you haven’t heard the name, you may want to get used to it.
As a redshirt freshman, he’s stepping up, making big catches in big games.
“I think every time you step on the field you gain a little more confidence,“ Coale said.
Coale grew up about two hours down the road from Lane Stadium. A Rockbridge County native, he said he didn’t know a whole lot about Virginia Tech. Instead, UVA was his team of choice.
“That was a concern. I can tell you I’m glad he’s at Virginia Tech,“ Beamer said.
“Once I started to get to know Tech and see what they’re all about and visit it, I fell in love with the place,“ Coale said.
Now when he walks on the field, he can’t get enough of it.
“The fans here are great, and I don’t think there’s a better college football atmosphere than Lane Stadium,“ he said.
It’s a feeling with which his friends and family tend to agree.
“l’m always usually searching for extra tickets from teammates.“
But Coale says a little extra work is okay with him, because playing for Tech is about more than just playing football.
“It’s an honor to represent Lexington and my hometown.“
It’s something he’s getting to do more of as his feet get more and more comfortable in his new NIKE cleats.
