Virginia Military Institute likely will be without one of the key components in its option rushing attack, running back Howard Abegesah, when it takes on No.6 Richmond on Saturday in Lexington.

Abegesah suffered a knee injury last week against Ohio, VMI coach Sparky Woods said. Woods didn’t know the severity and was awaiting test results.

Abegesah, a 6-0, 220-pound junior, is averaging 11 carries and 77 yards. He has scored five touchdowns.

If Abegesah is out, redshirt freshman Chaz Jones (20 carries, 177 yards) and true freshman Bobby Epps (19, 120) will move into more prominent roles.
