Junior Ike Whitaker, Virginia Tech’s most veteran receiver entering this season, did not play Saturday.
Beamer said he benched Whitaker for a couple of reasons.
“It was a couple of things there. (Whitaker) didn’t meet his responsibilities on a couple of things, meeting-wise and study hall-wise, and (freshman receiver Jarrett) Boykin is coming along,” Beamer said. “He gets better each week, every practice really. I’m kind of impressed with him.”
Whitaker has three catches this season for 14 yards. Boykin has one reception for three yards.
