MOST YEARS WE ARE USED TO THE BREAKS GOING THE BRUINS WAY ON THE SOCCER FIELD.. BUT THIS SEASON, THE TEAM SUFFERED BROKEN LEGS TO TWO OF THEIR STARS.. SOMETHING THEY HAVE WORKED THROUGH TO HAVE ANOTHER STELLAR SEASON..ONE OF THE INJURIES OCCURED TO STAR MATT BECKER--
“We have continued to play well without Logan and me in there, we have good players out there. Nobody is gonna feel sorry for us.” SAYS BECKER.
SENIOR TEAMMATE CHRIS HAGAN SAYS THE ADVERSITY HAS ACTUALLY MADE THE PERENNIAL POWER BRUINS TOUGHER TO BEAT.
“It affects us, but it makes us stronger as well.. because when we are out there, we have something to play for.”
NOT ONLY HAVE THEY DEALT WITH KEY LOSSES.. BUT THIS SEASON THE BRUINS HAVE A NEW COACHING STRUCTURE.. AFTER SHELLEY BLUMENTHAL STEPPED DOWN FOLLOWING THE 2007 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RUN.. IN 2008, TRAVIS BISHOP AND JOHN BOHLAND TOOK OVER THE TEAM TOGETHER.. AND WHILE IT HAS BEEN AN ADJUSTMENT.. IT SEEMS TO BE GOING WELL. BECKER EXPLAINS THAT HE LIKES THE ARRANGEMENT--
“They both learned from Coach B, but they bring their own mentality to the game.  It has been good.”
AND COACH BISHOP SAYS THERE ARE NO SUPRISES OUT OF THIS COACHING STAFF.
“They know what we expect out of them, and they know what to expect out of us.”
SO BATTLE TESTED.. UNDER NEW GUIDANCE.. AND READY TO SEND THEIR BIG GROUP OF SENIORS OUT WITH THE PROGRAMS 10TH STATE TITLE. COACH BISHOP SEEMS TO BE CONFIDENT ABOUT WHAT THE FUTURE COULD HOLD--
“I think our best soccer is still ahead of us.  We are improving every game, and thats what you want, to be playing your best at the last game of the season.”
THE BRUINS ARE CURRENTLY 13-0, 7-0 IN THE RIVER RIDGE DISTRICT. THEY HAVE OUTSCORED THEIR OPPONENTS BY A STAGGERING MARK OF 74-5.
