Glenvar and James River ooze tradition on the diamonds. Friday, they faced off on two fronts with a pair of Region C titles on the line. James River captured the softball half of the showdown with a 5-1 win. Abbie Rexrode was the pitcher of record for James River as they plated a pair of runs in the first and did not relent. The Glenvar boys turned the tables on the baseball diamonds, winning 6-3 at Kiwanis field. Glenvar jumped out to a 6-0 lead and made those runs stand up for the title.  In other baseball contests, Hidden Valley dropped the Region IV title to Abingdon 11-10, while Alleghany wins the Region III crown with a 10-5 win over Waynesboro. Elsewhere on the softball fields, Tunstall defeated Salem 4-0 for the Region IV title. Please see Jason Wolf’s complete breakdown of the game, also on this website.
On the soccer fields, the Blacksburg boys continue to steam towards another state title with a 2-1 region finals win over rival Hidden Valley. Elsewhere, Northside falls to Turner Ashby 2-1 in the Region III boys final. The Vikings are headed to the state tournament for the first time in school history. They’ll travel to Blacksburg for the State quarterfinal round.  The Region III Girls title goes to Harrisonburg, 2-0 over Lord Botetourt. The Region IV girls title was captured by Salem, 1-0 over Hidden Valley. The Region C Boys Soccer final between Giles and Radford is slated for Saturday at Galax HS.
