VIENNA - George Washington’s David Wilson’s jump of 48-9¼ earned the junior the Group AAA state title in the boys triple jump at the state indoor track meet Saturday at Oakton High School.
It wasn’t Wilson’s best mark of the season, but it was more than enough to beat Western Branch’s Jeffrey Artis, a three-time state runner-up, who was second with a distance of 48-4¾. Earlier this year, Wilson had a jump of 49-6 during a meet at Virginia Tech.
Wilson also finished ninth in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.52. Teammate D.J. Benion was 11th with a time of 6.56.
GW’s Simone Stallings finished ninth in the girls long jump with a distance of 17-6¾.
Western Branch took first in the team rankings with a score of 65. GW tied for 18th. Landstown won the girls meet with a team score of 64.
