A bullseye for two local school archery teams.
Roanoke County Schools says Northside Middle School’s archery team won a statewide “virtual” tournament, for the middle school division. The Hidden Valley High School archery team placed 2nd in the high school division.
The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) held the tournament, and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries sponsored the tournament.
The “virtual” part of the tournament does not mean it was held online. Teams from each school competed at their school, and reported their scores to the tournament judges, according to a Roanoke County Schools news release. The tactic helped cut down on travel expenses.
Both teams now move on to the national NASP tournament in Louisville, Kentucky on May 10th. Roanoke County Public Schools says both teams plan to go, and it will be the first year that Virginia will be represented in the national tournament.
