Tunstall wins 3rd consecutive Pittsylvania County track and field championship

Tunstall’s LaMarcus Adkins took first place in three events, and his Tunstall Trojans took home their third consecutive Pittsylvania County track and field championship.

Chatham placed second as a team, while Gretna came in third and Dan River finished fourth.

Adkins took first place in the 110-hurdles (15.43), the triple jump (40-feet-5) and the 300-meter intermediary hurdles (42.04). The Trojans also swept all three relay events.

Also taking gold at the county track meet were: Bennett Fulper of Gretna (shotput), Matt Chaney of Dan River (1600-run), David Dixon of Chatham (400-meter dash), Solomon Witcher of Chatham (long jump and high jump), Dan River’s Dantony Dickerson (100-meter dash), Chatham’s Ethan Ward (discus), Tunstall’s Bryan Swann (800-meter run) and Chatham’s Jamie Conner in the 3200-meter run.

In girls action, Chatham won with a score of 123½, followed by Dan River 59 ½, Tunstall 49 and Gretna 9.

Tunstall’s Kyana Smith won the long jump (13-11) and Christina Edwards won the 800-meter run (2:45). Katie Lee was second in the 3200 meters (14:36). Smith was second in discus (83). Taelor Carter was second in the 100 dash (13.92) and the 3200 relay team of Deonshia Carroll, Amber Wyatt, Katie Dougherty and Edwards was second with a time of 12:19.
