Bruins Handle Cougars, Advance to River Ridge Finals

The Blacksburg Bruins pulled off one of the biggest shockers of the evening with a twenty point domination of Pulaski Co to earn a berth in the River Ridge Boys Final. The Bruins regular season district record was 6-4. Pulaski finished 8-2, 18-4 overall and was clearly the pick to take another shot at Hidden Valley. The Titans won a playoff over the Cougars to earn the regular season title. Ben Boggs had 23 points has the Titans advanced over Salem 63-52. The Cougars and Titans will meet Friday night in the finals at the Salem Civic Center.
In Blue Ridge District action, Lord Botetourt rallied from seven points down in the second half to cage the Terriers of William Byrd 70-61 in overtime. The Cavs will face Alleghany in Friday’s final—a 57-50 winner over Northside in the other semifinal.
In Western Valley District action, it will be GW Danville and William Fleming for the title on Friday night, after the Eagles remained undefeated with a 20 point win over Patrick Henry 75-55, and the Colonels held off a tough Franklin Co squad 45-36.
In the Seminole District, Brookville will face Liberty in Friday’s title tilt. Brookville handled Jefferson Forest 45-37 and Liberty downed Rustburg 58-51 to advance.
In Girls action, perhaps the biggest upset of the night was rung up in Christiansburg, where Glenvar, at 3-7, 10-12, shocked 20-2 Floyd County by a score of 67-64. The Buffs ran through the District regular season at a perfect 10-0. Glenvar will advance to play Radford, a 56-52 winner over Auburn.
