THEY WON THE REGION C DIVISION 2 TITLE, BUT IT WAS NOT EASY. GEORGE WYTHE HAD TO HOLD OFF A FURIOUS COMEBACK BY JAMES RIVER, A TEAM THAT BEAT THEM IN THE TITLE GAME IN 2007.  IT’S THAT KIND OF BATTLE THAT WILL HELP AS THEY HEAD TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT.  HEAD COACH AL COPENHAVER SAYS A TEST LIKE THAT IS GOOD TO GET HIS GUYS PREPARED FOR THE TEAMS THEY WILL FACE IN THE STATE TOURNAMENT.
THE MAROONS ARE BACK TO WORK PREPARING FOR THEIR QUARTERFINAL GAME FRIDAY NIGHT, BUT THEY WILL NOT BE CHANGING UP THEIR STYLE, JUST TRYING TO PERFECT WHAT THEY HAVE ALWAYS DONE.
IN AL COPENHAVER’S 21 YEARS AT THE SCHOOL THEY HAVE BEEN TO STATE MANY TIMES, BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN PAST THE SEMIFINALS. WITH SIX SENIORS GETTING READY TO LEAVE THE PROGRAM, COPENHAVER HOPES THIS IS THE YEAR.  HE STRESSES HOW MUCH HIS SENIORS DESERVE THE CHANCE TO PLAY IN RICHMOND IN THE FINAL FOUR.
