George Washington senior Nick Barbour, an Associated Press Group AAA first-team all-state selection, announced his acceptance of a full athletic scholarship Monday to play basketball at High Point (N.C.) University, an NCAA Division I program that competes in the Big South Conference.
The 6-foot-2 Barbour averaged 23.2 points and 5.1 rebounds as George Washington went 27-1 this season, losing only to Petersburg in the state quarterfinals. He scored 29 points in the loss.
Barbour scored 1,288 points in a three-year varsity career and helped lead GW to a 77-6 record during that span.
High Point (17-14, 8-6) finished third in the Big South Conference this year.
Barbour joins fellow All-Group AAA team selection Corey Law of Deep Creek as incoming freshmen with the Panthers next season. Law, 6-5, averaged 20.7 points and 14.3 rebounds and was named the 2008 All-Tidewater Player of the Year and the Southeastern District Player of the Year.
