High School basketball tournaments begin tonight

The Hogoheegee and Mountain Empire boys’ and girls’ district basketball tournaments begin tonight.
Both districts’ girls’ tournaments will begin on Monday at the site of the higher seeded school. The boys’ tourneys will begin Tuesday.
In the Hogoheegee District girls’ tournament, Rural Retreat will be home for a first round game at 6 p.m. against Northwood. The winner of that game will advance to the tourney semifinals on Wednesday night at Marion Senior High School.
The George Wythe girls’ team has a first round bye and will play in the semifinals on Wednesday at MSHS.
It was not known at press time what time GW’s game on Wednesday will be because the Lady Maroons were scheduled to play Friday night against Chilhowie to determine the district’s number one seed in the regionals. GW and CHS tied for first place in the regular season.
The tournament championship game will be played at 6 p.m. Friday at MSHS. It will be followed by the boys’ championship game.
In the Hogoheegee District boys’ tournament, Rural Retreat will travel to Patrick Henry at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will advance to the semifinals on Thursday at Marion Senior High School.
George Wythe has a first round bye and will play in the tourney semifinals at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Marion Senior High School against the winner of the Holston-Northwood game.
The boys’ tourney championship game will be held Friday at approximately 7:30 p.m. at MSHS.
The semifinals and finals of the Mountain Empire boys’ and girls’ tournament will be held at Fort Chiswell High School.
The Fort Chiswell girls’ and boys’ teams both have first round byes. The Fort Chiswell girls’ team will play in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday against the winner of the Bland County-Pocahontas game.
The Fort Chiswell boys’ team will play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday against the winner of the Narrows-Grayson County game.
The girls’ and boys’ tourney championship games will be played on Friday at FCHS. The girls’ final will be held at 6 p.m. with the boys’ final to follow.
