Local High School basketball teams rank high in state poll

Southwest Virginia scores high in the newest Associated Press high school boys basketball poll.
George Wythe is the only local school with a boys basketball team ranks #1 in their state group, but there are plenty of others in the top 10 lists.
The Maroons rank atop Group A, garnering nine first place votes. George Wythe’s record stands at 15-2.
Altavista and Nelson County follow George Wythe at #2 and #3 respectively. James River in Botetourt County comes in at #6, and Galax at #7.
In Group AA, Hidden Valley ranks #2 in the state. The Titans received two first place votes.
Pulaski County checks in at #4, followed by Brookville at #5, and Blacksburg at #9.
In Group AAA, G.W. Danville ranks second, despite a 19-0 record. First place Highland Springs stands at 17-1.
Defending state champion William Fleming ranks #9, with a 14-4 record.
