Salem Boys, Blacksburg Girls Earn Regional Berths
Third-place games punched Region Tournament tickets and the GW Danville girls claimed a District Tournament title Thursday night.

The William Byrd girls in the Blue Ridge and the Blacksburg girls in the River Ridge kept their respective postseasons alive with wins in third-place games.
Byrd handled Alleghany by 10, 59-49, while Blacksburg took down old rival Christiansburg 71-60 to move on.
In other girls action, the G.W. Danville girls defeated Franklin County by a resounding 71-43 count to claim the Western Valley District tournament title.
The Pioneer District girls semifinals shook out about as planned. The James River Knights perfect league season continued with a solid 63-44 win over Bath County, while Highland took out Parry McCluer by one in overtime 48-47 to advance to the final.
In the Seminole District 3rd place game, Jefferson Forest took out Liberty by 11 points, 48-37.
In Boys action, Salem earned a spot in the Region tournament by taking down River Ridge District Regular season runner-up Pulaski County 63-52.
In the Three Rivers District Semifinals held at Christiansburg High School, top seed Radford handled Glenvar by a 72-47 count, while Auburn earned a title shot with a 55-51 win over Giles.
In Independent School Boys action, North Cross advanced in Division II with a 73-49 dismantling of Covenant, while Roanoke Catholic downed Liberty Christian 58-44 to advance as well..
