WEEK 1
Jefferson Forest running back Desmond Goode rushed for 197 yards and four touchdowns in the Cavaliers’ 44-17 victory over Seminole District and Bedford County rival Staunton River.
Brookville defensive end/tight end Zack McCray picked up two fumbles, returning the second for a game-tying 70-yard touchdown, caught two passes from Logan Thomas for 29 yards and sacked Amherst quarterback Anthony Rose for an 11-yard loss in the Bees’ 24-21 triumph at Lancers Stadium.
WEEK 2
Liberty Christian Academy QB Mike Rocco completed 14 of 18 passes for 264 yards and 3 TDs and Desmond Rice rushed 14 times for 185 yards and 3 TDs in a 47-23 victory over Dan River.
Rashawn ‘Boo’ Woods, Bassett Bengals quarterback accounted for 368 yards of total offense and 5 touchdowns. Rushing 230 yards and 2 touchdowns passing 138 yards and 3 touchdowns.
WEEK 3
Hidden Valley wide receiver Matt Aiken had two touchdown catches, one touchdown return and the interception at the end of the game that iced a 36-30 win for the Titans.
Brookville senior running back Stacy Houston rushed 19 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns in Brookville’s 14-0 victory over Salem.
WEEK 4
Player of the week is Pulaski Co. RB Nubian Peak, 236 combined yards rushing/receiving and 3 tds in a 40-14 win over Franklin Co. Peak rushed for 188 on 23 carries and 2 tds, caught 3 passes for 48 yards and another td.
Jayme Barksdale of Gretna continues to fill in ably for injured quarterback Nick Miller. Barksdale racked up 266 total yards, threw touchdowns and rushed for two more in Gretna’s 39-14 win over Tunstall.
WEEK 5
Brookville quarterback Logan Thomas completed 9 of 17 passes for 206 yards, and four touchdowns and rushed 13 times for 131 yards, including a 66-yard score, to lead the Bees to a 49-34 triumph over William Byrd.
David Wilson of GW rushed for 331 yards (breaking a three-year school record) on 29 carries, but more impressively he scored seven touchdowns in a 48-34 come-from-behind win over Matoaca.
WEEK 6
Liberty junior quaterback Tyler Bowyer completed 6-of-8 passes for 138 yards, connecting with Kordero Thompson on a 61-yard touchdown pass and Boo Payne on a 26-yard TD strike. He also rushed for a 10-yard touchdown and converted three PAT kicks in as the Minutemen improved to 4-1 with a 40-14 come-from-behind victory at Staunton River.
Playing in his first game at the quarterback position, Trey Edmunds of Dan River threw for 116 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for another touchdown for a four-touchdown-night performance as Dan River rolled 46-0 over Chatham in a district contest.
WEEK 7
Nelson County quarterback M.J. Wells rushed 22 times for 216 yards and three touchdowns and threw two more as the Generals scored the last four touchdowns, but missed three of four two-point conversions, in a 41-38 loss to Gretna.
William Campbell senior quarterback Baron Adams, who rushed five touchdowns and threw one in last week’s 58-7 rout of Appomattox, tossed four touchdown passes after rushing one in a 43-7 victory over Dan River. Adams completed 14 of 17 passes for a career-high 224 yards for the game.
WEEK 8
Eastern Montgomery’s Brad Wooten wr/db scored three touchdowns and picked off three passes on defense, leading the Mustangs to a 26-0 win over auburn. He returned one of his interceptions the length of the field was stripped at the goal line, but fell on his own fumble for another touchdown.
GW running back Tahron Goods rushed for 165 yards on 20 carries and scored one touchdown in a 28-14 Western Valley District win over E.C. Glass.
WEEK 9
Baron Adams, William Campbell senior quarterback, atoned for sub-par passing performance (6-18, 34 yards, 3 INTs) by rushing 26 times for 141 yards and four touchdowns, including the game’s final three, to lead the Generals (7-1) back from an early 18-0 deficit to beat Gretna 34-18 in a duel that usually decides the Dogwood District championship.
Desmond Rice, LCA junior running back, rushed 13 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns to boost the Bulldogs to a 47-7 Virginia Independent Conference victory over Hargrave Military at Liberty University’s Williams Stadium.
WEEK 10
GW runningback David Wilson broke the team’s single-game rushing record that he established earlier this season. Wilson, who will play football next season for Virginia Tech, ran for 349 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries, leading GW to a 28-21 district win over Franklin County.
Gretna senior quarterback Jayme Barksdale rushed for 273 yards and three touchdowns and passed for another 86 yards and a score in the Hawks’ 43-9 Dogwood District rout of Appomattox.
WEEK 11
Appomattox junior quarterback Kenny Scott rushed 22 times for 347 yards and three touchdowns and returned a fumble 95 yards and a fourth score in the Raiders’ 44-18 Dogwood District victory over Nelson County.
Sid Brown, North Cross WR, made seven catches for 149 yards and three TDs in North Cross’s win over rival Roanoke Catholic. One of his TDs was a 52 yard grab.
WEEK 12
M.J. Wells, Nelson County senior quarterback, rushed 25 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns, including a 74-yarder to open the scoring, and completed 14 of 23 passes for 120 yards, including a 16-yard TD pass to Tim Williams to break a 21-21 tie before finding Eric Mays in the end zone for a two-point conversion in Friday’s season-ending 29-21 triumph at Dan River.
David WIlson, G.W. senior runningback, rushed for 277 yards and 5 touchdowns as the Eagles routed halifax 62-35 to secure a playoff spot for the third season in a row. Unofficially, Wilson is the first player in the history of G.W. to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a single season.
WEEK 13
William Campbell senior Stanley Peerman caught 5 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed two times for 90 yards and two more scores in the Generals’ 64-6 victory over Riverheads.
Gretna’s Steven Payne made a 62-yard fumble recovery that put an exclamation point on Friday’s 36-0 win over Goochland. He also had a sack and two tackles for loss.
WEEK 14
Gretna quarterback Jayme Barksdale rushed 25 times for 235 yards and four touchdowns as the Hawks defended their Division 2, Region B crown with a 51-27 triumph over Clarke County.
Timmy Wright, William Campbell senior wide receiver/fullback, rushed 14 times for 131 yards and touchdown runs of 19 and 42 yards as the Generals won their first Division 1, Region B championship in three seasons with a 35-7 rout of Buffalo Gap.
